Live Like a Man from the 80s
Brandon is diving into the 1980s lifestyle for a full week. He missed experiencing much of the decade since he and his brother were born in the mid-80s.
Still, he remembers it as a time that was big, bold, and totally awesome.
Many iconic events shaped the decade, like Ronald Reagan becoming president and the release of unforgettable movies and music. Even after 40 years, the 80s still capture people’s hearts.
To kick off this journey, Brandon decides to transform his look.
First up is facial hair. In the 80s, mustaches were trendy, made popular by stars like Tom Selleck and Freddie Mercury.
The clean-shaven look was also favored, thanks to smart advertising by brands like Gillette and a unique disposable razor trend.
After getting cleaned up, Brandon faces some irritation from the razor but manages to achieve a smooth look.
Next, he tackles his hair. The 80s brought many bold hairstyles, from big rocker hair to feathered looks and mullets.
Brandon chooses to go for a flat top but adds a twist by bleaching his hair. He seeks help from his girlfriend since it’s their first time dyeing hair.
The vibrant new look stands out, just as musicians like Billy Idol and Madonna did in the past.
When it comes to clothing, Brandon knows the 80s were all about making a statement.
Men often sported oversized blazers, pinstripe suits, and casual polo shirts. Denim was everywhere, including acid-washed jeans and ripped jackets.
He searches thrift stores for authentic 80s brands like Levi’s and Nike, finding some solid pieces, including a vintage Members Only jacket.
With his wardrobe ready, Brandon visits his brother’s attic, hoping to discover relics from their childhood. He expects to find nostalgic treasures, much like in “The Goonies.”
His day-to-day routine from the 80s brings up some cool reminders of how life was back then.
They had modern conveniences, like digital clocks, portable music players, and a collection of cassette tapes. Breakfast often included sugary cereals, and evenings were spent gaming on the newest systems.
The 1980s also saw a boom in media and advertising. Cable television became a household staple, promoting everything from home computers to video game consoles.
Although smartphones weren’t around, the decade introduced the first commercially available mobile phone, the Motorola Dinetac 8000X, a heavy-duty device that looked like a brick and cost a fortune.
